Hi! I’m Karen Baum.

Anxiety was a huge problem most of my life

I was very shy and reserved until about age 40.  That was when I was finally able to get a handle on my anxiety.  This allowed me to be more assertive and open with my life.

Who would have thought that shy girl/woman would now be a sex therapist and also specialize in general and specific anxiety! Certainly not me! But here I am.

I thoroughly enjoy working with a variety of people.

As I raised my sons I always told them the world is a better place because all people are different. I love it when I am able to see people be who they are instead of what society thinks they should be.

I am liberal with my views, warm, supportive and empathetic. I enjoy learning about people and assisting them with the bumps life throws at us.

Currently, the only “kids” that live with me are furry. My coworker of eight years is a Great Dane that is deaf and blind.  She went to my office and a school for four years and now is “retired”.  Her life has not changed.  Just the places she now takes naps. You will see her at times during sessions as she is hard to miss!

Update: I lost my beautiful girl 7.20.2024. She will forever be missed.

My Education

I have a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Masters Degree in Community Counseling.  I have been licensed by the Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board of Ohio since 2010.

I have completed The Comprehensive Sexology Program from The Buehler Institute. This consisted of 150 hours of training.

My License and Certification

  • I am a Certified Sex Therapist with AASECT,
The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

AASECT has stringent criteria to become a CST such as: 150 hours of specific training, 50 hours of supervision, and more than 300 client hours.

My Career

My career started working with teens in group homes. I then branched off into private practice assisting adults and children with a variety of issues associated with ADHD, behavior, low income, marriage, anxiety and depression.

In 2019, I officially started my practice of Saving Grace Telehealth Counseling.

To me, our “saving grace” is our ability to find strength within us. To battle our demons with the capacity to change our lives for the better. Sometimes we need help with that, whether it be support or someone guiding us forward to that unknown place.  The place we hope (and are told) we will find peace.

I meet with clients throughout Ohio via secure video.

I have found this to be a wonderful method to work with people in an environment they feel most comfortable.

Being affected myself by anxiety I have found a passion for helping those with similar issues.  I have made it my goal to be the most informed and therefore the most helpful I can be to my clients.  Working with couples began to be more predominant in my career in the last few years. As I worked with couples I began finding out, through my clients, how few counselors are comfortable talking about sex. I realized this was an area that needed attention.  My clients often find my down to earth (“real” as they have said) personality and significant training in the area helps them feel comfortable talking about a topic that is not always so comfortable.

I am happy to encourage you to utilize any spiritual beliefs that you have. If that is not a substantial part of your life then it does not need to be a part of the counseling experience. That is your decision.

It is time to take your life back!
